Part One
“I spent years on the run, hiding from them. But now they have seen me and if they catch me, they will kill me. I have found a place to hide but it won’t last long because they are tearing the town to pieces. I didn’t realise it until now, but I am specifically being hunted though I don’t know why. I need to find out what I did before they find me. I hope I figure it out in time.” – S.P
I catch my breath, panting. I know the journey across the border where I will be safe. I sigh as I light a fire, careful to hide the smoke, and I curl up in a ball next to it. I should be safe for now, hiding in a forest where it gives protection for me. It has become my brother.
A shout wakes me. My eyesight is hazy as I rub the sleep from my eyes. It is dawn, if I look to the east I can see a beautiful mix of colours in the sky. Sadly, I have no time for that because they have come to find me. My heart pounding, I grab what little belongings I have and trudge to the east of the forest. I climb up a tree with thick foliage, where I made a basic treehouse. I cover my mouth to stifle a gasp.
I suddenly have a flashback. I am lying on the grass, stargazing and admiring the beauty of the heavens. I am just about to doze off into a deep sleep when the same shout echoes in my ears. Flames lick the end of long wooden torches and I get up and run. I collapsed on the ground and rolled into and underground pit. Dark figures march past me. The memory fades.
I still have not figured out who are hunting me or why. My memory was obliterated when I received that blow to my head. I touch the scar and curse under my breath. If I had not received that blow I would know everything and I wouldn’t be in that situation. I would be at home, lying on the couch and squirting some tomato sauce into my mouth.
Then a loud sound came from the tree next to me. I could almost hear the tree groaning and begging for help. I looked sideways and saw that a person in a dark uniform was swinging a shiny weapon at the trunk of the tree. The tree fell over and something within me snapped. Without thinking, I grabbed a sword I had obtained a while ago and I slid down the tree trunk. There were only half a dozen people so I spat on the ground and sliced my sword at everybody I saw. They all dropped dead.
I picked up a sword that was carried by one of the fallen. It was light and fitted my hand perfectly. My smile didn’t last for long. I had broken one of the laws and if someone caught me, I would be sent to jail. I have been outlawed.

Part Two
Some of the fog in my mind has cleared. I know who is chasing me. They are a group called the Lawless are a group of outlaws in the country. I also know that a few seconds ago I became an outlaw so technically I should be in their group. You should try telling them that. They hold some kind of grudge against me though I don’t know what. I hope I regain my memory soon. I don’t want to spend my life living like this.
But then there are some joys of this life. I get to kill people, oh yes, but if I am found I am going to be convicted. I am going to fight and I am going to win this battle no matter what.
I turn the sword in my hands. It is old, as old as the earth. I want a new sword and if I want something I will get it.
I spat on the ground as another troupe of the Lawless arrive. They had new swords, they glistened in the sun and were made of the finest material in the country. Surprise was on my side as a sneaked up behind them and slaughtered them one by one. The battle is gory. I hear a sword whistle past my ear and I grab a wrist and force it into another shoulder. There is a shout behind me and I turn around and stab them in the eyes. I am now surrounded so stick my sword out and whirl in a circle until I am only left with one person.
He is average sized. His muscles bulge and he holds a sword with an orange glint. He wears a mask so I cannot recognise his figure, but I recognise his voice. I am going to die. His name is Yurnero or known as Juggernaut, known as Jug to me. I am the only person to see him under the mask and I will always be the only one to see him under the mask.
I went to the showers in the gym and I heard these weird grunting noises so I thought someone was being attacked. I shoved the shower door open but instead of a shower of blood, I came face to face with Juggernaut taking of his mask and massaging his temples. I may have taken a photo of him but that was not my fault. Nope, not even a bit. I did not know how he would get his revenge, or why. I don’t understand why he was angry I just saw his face under the mask and it shouldn’t be a big deal.
A yell snapped me out of my daydream. He stared at me and whirled his orange blade around. I felt metal slice at my stomach and my vision faded. The world is spinning, I am in some kind of container though I am not in the Lawless compound thank God. Maybe Jug wasn’t working with the Lawless because I would be dead. I have my memory back, though I wish I didn’t because now I have to see a constant repeat of me walking in to Jug in the gym shower every single second.
A grunting sound makes me snap around and I see Jug sharpening his sword on a razor. He walks over once he’s finished, he takes of his mask and points to his face.
“See this?” he said walking slowly around the tank. “These are the scars that I received when I was punished for refusing to do a corrupt lord’s bidding. They beat me and then exiled me from the island. I vowed that I would get my revenge on anything that I found unjust and you,” he paused. “you have humiliated me beyond anything so I will give you the same punishment that I was given when I was a child.”
When Yurnero turned his back, I rolled my eyes and scoffed. He tensed up at the sound but dismissed any thoughts of attack. I have magic powers of course, but I didn’t want anyone knowing that I had any. I only use magic if I am desperate and I am not desperate, although… I have a cunning plan. I have the ability to read minds, without anyone realising. I know his every move, all his plans now. He will smash the glass that I am captured in and this will weaken everything I do. He will make illusions of himself, he will be able to confuse me while his illusions will trap me in a small room with a magic rope. He will get the rope to wind around me and he will dismiss the illusions, leaving the real him. Then he will torture me and he will kill me.
But now I know his plans and I can beat him using magic. In one minute, Jug will come out of the room and break the glass. I can escape now but that will be too noisy and he will come in too early.
I cast two spells, an undetectable and an energy field. The undetectable will muffle my movements and allow me to move across the room as a blur. The energy field will protect me from the glass and any other showering objects, but not swords.
As Jug conjures the illusions, I will dart to the back of the crowd and knock his weapon out of his hand. I will then blast the ceiling off and I will be gone. Here goes.
Glass bounces of the energy field as I dart across the room. The illusions appear and I ignore them, ghosting through them and slamming into the real Juggernaut. He drops his weapon and I pick it up.
As he is stunned, so are all the other illusions so I blast the ceiling while singing “Wrecking Ball” as I fly out. I don’t yet have a perfect life. Too many people are hunting me and I am far from the border to my country. I will have a hard life, but it is worth it.
